Next to the Bostock Reservoir, lies the quaint Ballan Mineral Reserve boasting spring water akin to Hepburn Springs. A gravel parking space, lined with picnic tables, offers a serene view of the tranquil Moorabool River East Branch.

In 2023, the Council unveiled two sculptures aimed at honoring Indigenous heritage and revitalizing the connection between the Ballan and Spargo Creek mineral springs sites with the Moorabool River. Brim Brim, one of these sculptures, can be admired at the Ballan Mineral Reserve.

Traverse narrow paths leading to the mineral spring tap, where additional picnic spots, benches, and shelter await beside the petite, seasonal river. Adventurous souls descending the slope will be rewarded with picturesque views of the river valley nestled near the riverbed.

During summer, this area becomes a haven for fluttering butterflies, offering an idyllic setting for a leisurely picnic or a brief respite en route to Bostock Reservoir.

WATER QUALITY - “SODA WATER”

Ballan Spring is a sodium bicarbonate natural mineral water or “soda water”. It is quite a gassy water with high chloride, sodium and zinc levels.

These springs are in the Moorabool Shire, more information can be found here.
